Today Western Digital launched its brand new 3.5″ SATA 2TB hard drive, the world’s very first desktop hard drive with 2 terabytes of storage space. Called the Caviar Green 2TB, not for its color but for its class and environmental impact, respectively, the new drive boasts a design that prevents its drive head from ever touching the drive’s magnetic surface, which should extend its lifespan and protect the drive from motion.

The “green” bit comes as a result of WD’s intelligent seek patterns and spin speed adjustability, which supposedly reduce power consumption.

Caviar Green 2TB is available as of today for $299.

That’s a lot of porn storage for a very little price!

Apple Users Beware

Mac Malware Found in Pirated iWork 09

ZDNet’s Ryan Naraine is reporting that pirated copies of Apple’s iWork 09 circulating on BitTorrent and elsewhere are infected with Mac malware.

According to Mac AV vendor Intego the malware is known as OSX.Trojan.iServices.A. The pirated software is complete and functional but the installer has an additional package, named iWorkServices, that contains the attack. It may ask the user for an administrator password, depending on the version of OS X. After it installs it phones home to a remote server to report that it is installed and awaits remote commands, including the installation of additional software. It loads at boot time and has root access.

Sounds very much like a conventional Windows bot. Naraine quotes Intego as saying that at least 20,000 Macs had already downloaded the infected installer.

Looks like Norton and McAffee are gonna start making more money.

Tom Hanks sounds off over the Mormon involvement in the passing of Prop 8 during the premier of “Big Love”, whom Hanks is executive producer of.

“The truth is this (show) takes place in Utah, the truth is these people are some bizarre offshoot of the Mormon Church, and the truth is a lot of Mormons gave a lot of money to the church to make Prop-8 happen. There are a lot of people who feel that is un-American and I am one of them. I do not like to see any discrimination codified on any piece of paper, any of the 50 states in America, but here’s what happens now. A little bit of light can be shed and people can see who’s responsible and that can motivate the next go around of our self correcting constitution and hopefully we can move forward instead of backwards. So lets have faith in not only the American, but Californian constitutional process.”

Send In The Judge

January 15, 2009 at 9:20 pm (blogging)

Well, I got a letter from the lawyer who is representing our HOA members and me in the slander suit. I had to read the letter carefully as all the “legalise” gets a bit confusing, but the motion to dismiss this case is being granted. And reading further it says the plaintiff may not try and sue again on these grounds. That was wonderful to read. The next part put a bit of a damper on the news. It says he can try and appeal within 30 days. I only hope that if he tries (and he will, he’s tenacious) that it is turned down for the same reason the current case was dismissed.

I will keep posting if anything new happens.
