By the Four Arms of Vishnu, It’s Bigfoot!

I saw this on the Discovery News site:

India ‘Bigfoot’ Sightings Prompt Probe

June 11, 2007 — Claims by terrified villagers that “bigfoot”-type hairy giants are roaming the jungles of India’s remote northeast have prompted authorities to order an investigation, a local official said.

The bizarre sightings have been made in the Garo hills area of Meghalaya state, close to the borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan, with villagers calling the mysterious creatures “Mande Burung” — or Jungle Man.

“A team of wildlife officials and other experts will conduct a study to find out if there is any truth in the locals’ claims about these hairy giants,” said Samphat Kumar, a district magistrate in the West Garo Hills district.

The creatures have apparently been talked about and occasionally spotted for years, but sightings have increased in the past month, prompting authorities to look into the matter.

One local farmer, 40-year-old Wallen Sangma, said he had seen an entire family of the creatures.

“The sight was frightening: two adults and two smaller ones, huge and bulky, furry,” he told a reporter who visited the remote area on Thursday and Friday.

“Their heads looked as if they were wearing caps, and their colour was blackish-brown,” he said, adding the four “monsters” were about 100 to 130 feet away from him as he looked for firewood in a forested area.

“The four of them quietly vanished into the undergrowth,” he said of the recent sighting.

One Garo Hills group, the Achik Tourism society, has been trying to verify the creature’s existence for the past 10 years, photographing footprints and “nests” reported by locals.

The group claims to have hair samples of the creature taken from the forest and will send them for DNA testing.

  1. India is just trying to steal the thunder from our Bigfoot, Batboy, and Scotland’s Lock Ness Monster. 😉

  2. Didn’t we determine all that Bigfoot crap was a bunch of hooey? I’m trying to remember if I saw some movie about Bigfoot when I was a kid. I do remember my dad taking us to the drive-in and in the movie, there was this guy sitting on the toilet and Bigfoot reaches inside the window and yanks him out of the place. Hmmm. Hope you guys have a great weekend.

Please folks, lets not be so US-centric. These things have not only been seen and noted way back in history until the present day but also all over the world they are taken as matter of fact creatures.

The large Worldwide list of names for the yeti on Wiki is not complete.

It took 60 years to prove the panda bear existed. Imagine this: Its big, easy to spot. Slow, Thick as a bag of spanners, short sighted, has no natural enemies and lived in an area the size of a small US state..

    Joe, take a chill pill.
Its now a fact. Panda bears really do exist!

Ever read up on the story of the duck billed platypus? They sent one back to blighty pickled in Formaldehyde. It was mooted a hoax for decades by all the armchair experts who took a good hard look at this silly monstrosity.
Tail of a beaver; a ducks bill, a rodent with webbed feet and claws that are poisonous. On top of that, it lays eggs!

The “bigfoot” is called “Ban-manush” in Bangladesh. “Barmanou” in the Afghanistan and Pakistan region and “Mande Barung” in India.

I found this video fascinating and difficult to dismiss. Until he talks of ancient civilisations which is off topic here:

Oh, and that comic cover.. Believe me. One ex-con Aussie biker decided to chase one as it seemed to be playing games with him and his neighbour, banging the side of their houses etc.
He said if it decided to turn on me it wouldn’t hurt …… not for long.

I take it that man attacked by “bigfoot” was too tough for a 700 lb hominid? Give us a break! A fully grown male chimpanzee could literally dissemble ANY human, one to one, within three minutes if it had to.

Their bones mirror the strength of these things. A shovel shaft to a broom handle etc.

Now imagine that chimp was three times as massive as a man and around 8′ tall. “Savage fury trying to tear me apart” indeed. No wonder this “bigfoot” thing is treated as “hooey” and someone is selling that picture as a comic.

    Enjoy yourselves out there. 😀

    ROMAN,
I would rather spend a week with crazy people who see the world and think anything is possible. Than one hour with those who do, see and believe in nothing; call others names and are set in their ways.

  10. Most bush is only seen by the hairline roads cut thru them. Drivers focus on the road. If an animal hears an approaching vehicle, it only has to move a few steps off the road and its invisible. You sceptics should try it if you are unable to believe me. Whole mountain ranges might harbour any number of shy, elusive species, including ones that indigenous peoples know about that we Westerners have yet to see.

Probably best we never do see them, or the Yanks would hunt them to extinction.

Russia Today (RT.com) Had a lovely piece about holiday hunting for B/F out in the Russian Taiga a few months ago. No guns, just looking for evidence. Gorgeous locations!

The locals know about the Almati and insist they are as real as the tree’s.
